Style Guidelines: This is a pale wheat that's hopped up. No, not paler that a wheat -- it's a wheat that also includes pale malt, for a slightly maltier wheat that includes a ton of hops. Consider it a spring / summer ale for all you hopheads! Rotation Schedule: Beta testing: first brew due mid to late April 2007 at Barley's Smokehouse & Brewpub. Food Pairings: Heck, let us taste the final product first! |

"A new beer is tough enough to do. How about the name? We could have called it Barley's Pale Wheat and been done with it, but nooo.... We're using Amarillo hops, known for their citrus-like qualities, so we show a hoppy grapefruit being squeezed into the pint. But what about the rest? We knew we wanted a shower of hops? Well, Scott Francis, our brewmaster is a known Beatles fan. We knew we wanted a shower of hops in the beer, so there's Scott holding an umbrella -- that's Paul McCartney's body and umbrella from the Beatles 65 album. Not having a good name reference from that album, we ended on Abbey Road, and Octopus's Garden. Ergo, Hoptopus. It ends up that Octopus's Garden is track 5, which is just above track 6. We're back to 65. What else to do but to make the beer 65 IBUs? And there's your little story." |
