Ever wonder why we call it "Crooked Sky Rye?" And while we're at it, who's Angelo? If you visit our downtown location, just look across High Street. The Greater Columbus Convention Center was designed by the reknowned architect Peter Eisenman. There's nary a vertical line in the place. We like to say, "If the building looks straight to you, you're cut off." Angelo is Angelo Signorino, our Head Brewer. A home brewer way back when, Angelo has been brewing at Barley's since the beginning, alongside Scott Francis, our Brewmaster. Angelo has been responsible for designing many of our most popular ales, including Auld Curiosity Ale, first brewed in 1996, and recognized as the "Best American Style Ale" in 2001 at the prestigious Real Ale Festival in Chicago. He wanted a brew using rye, and this highly dirnkable and refeshing beverage is the result. |
Angelo's Crooked Sky Rye Style Guidelines: Rye adds a buiscuit-like graininess to a pale ale in a fusion of British and German beer styles. Rotation
Schedule: once a year at our downtown location,
generally at the beginning of autumn. Food Pairings: A great all-around food beer, because it's not as filling as many ales. As a lager, this one will cut some of the heaviness in sauce-based meat dishes and will stand up to their strong flavors. It's also great with salty snacks, such as kettle chips, nachos and goes quite well with our bucket o' mussels. |
